چکیده
this study was conducted to investigate theallometric growth pattern and sexual dimorphism in the skull of both sexes ofiranian brown bear (ursus arctos) in thealborz mountains using geometric morphometric and traditional morphometric techniques. morphometric parameters were obtained from 2d pictures of skulls using the software imagej and allometric growth pattern was calculated as a power function of total length using non-transformed data. the results revealed significant differencesbetweendifferent parts ofthe skullin both two sexes.allometric growth patternalso showedthat differencebetweenmales and femalesduring their ontogenic growth of skull.results showed that during development of skull parts from immature to adult in male and female, similargrow pattern will continuetoa certainage until sexual dimorphism appears. growth patterns is a factorfor the sexual dimorphism differences. different charts shows more consolidate in different parts of the male skull.based on the results, there is significant differences between skull shape of male and female of brown bear skull in ventral, dorsal and lateral faces. according to the results males in different parts of the skull is stronger whereas have shown more length, narrower andweaker in females.

Reduced Skull Sexual Dimorphism in a Local Sheep Breed
This study estimated the magnitude of sexual dimorphism in a relict sheep from Catalunya (NE Spain), called Fardasca, using geometric morphometric techniques. For these analyses, a total of 18 skull specimens (2 adult males and 16 females) were studied. Our results suggest that the breed is not cranially dimorphic, so sex determination using landmarks described here as criteria is likely to yiel...

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the morphometric differences of the skull in male and female Zell sheep. Methods: For this purpose, 30 heads (15 adult males and 15 adult female) of Zell sheep breed were collected from the local slaughter-house. The skulls were prepared using the boiling maceration according to the usual techniques, and the mandible was dissociated fr...
متن کاملallometric growth pattern, sexual dimorphism and size at the onset of sexual maturity in opusia indica (brachyura: ocypodoidea: camptandriidae) from mangrove areas of pakistan
size at sexual maturity and patterns of somatic growth are important aspects of reproductive history of crab. the main purpose of this study is to provide an estimate for the onset of morphological sexual maturity in mangrove crab, opusia indica from a population located in korangi creek intertidal mud flat (karachi, pakistan) based on relative growth. the crabs were monthly collected through q...
متن کاملSexual size dimorphism in musteloids: An anomalous allometric pattern is explained by feeding ecology
Rensch's rule states that sexual size dimorphism (SSD) increases with body size in taxa where males are larger, and decreases when females are larger. The dominant explanation for the trend is currently that competitive advantage for males is greater in larger individuals, whereas female size is constrained by the energetics of rearing offspring. This rule holds for a variety of vertebrate taxa...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Local People’s Fear of Brown Bears (Ursus Arctos) in Protected Areas of Alborz Province
Wildlife management and conservation is challenged by public perceptions and fear of carnivores in communities living in close proximity to wild habitats, where large carnivores occur. Fear of carnivores influences peoplechr('39')s attitudes towards wild animals, further exacerbating the problems associated with effective conservation and management of wildlife. Here, we aimed to investigate th...
